Frozen French Toast Recipe

Frozen French toast is pre-cooked French toast that has been frozen for convenience. It’s typically sold in the frozen breakfast section of grocery stores and can be reheated quickly in a toaster, oven, or microwave.

What It's Made Of:

Frozen French toast is made from slices of bread dipped in a mixture of:

  • Eggs

  • Milk or cream

  • Sugar

  • Cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)

  • Vanilla extract (optional)

After cooking (usually griddled or baked), the slices are flash-frozen to preserve freshness.

How to Use It:

You can reheat frozen French toast by:

  • Toaster: Quick and gives a crispy edge.

  • Oven: Best for heating multiple pieces.

  • Microwave: Fast but can make it soft or soggy.

Homemade Version:

You can make your own frozen French toast by preparing it normally, letting it cool, and then freezing the slices on a tray before transferring them to a freezer bag. This is a great make-ahead breakfast option.

How It Use??

To use frozen French toast, follow these simple steps depending on how you want to heat it up:

🔥 1. Toaster (Best for Crispiness)

  • Step 1: Take the frozen French toast out of the package.

  • Step 2: Put it in your toaster like a regular slice of bread.

  • Step 3: Toast on medium until hot and crispy (usually 2–3 minutes).

✔️ Best for: Quick breakfast with a crispy outside.

🔥 2. Oven (Best for Multiple Pieces)

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Step 2: Place frozen slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.

  • Step 3: Bake for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

✔️ Best for: Heating several pieces at once with even texture.

🔥 3. Microwave (Quickest Method)

  • Step 1: Place 1–2 slices on a microwave-safe plate.

  • Step 2: Microwave on high for 30–60 seconds, depending on your microwave.

✔️ Best for: When you’re in a hurry (but may be softer, not crispy).

🍓 Serve It With:

  • Maple syrup

  • Fresh fruit (berries, bananas)

  • Butter

  • Whipped cream

  • Powdered sugar

Assembly instructions:

  1. Whisk together the milk, eggs, spices, vanilla, and orange zest. Heat a skillet or griddle to medium heat and grease with some olive oil. Dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture and cook on both sides until browned.
  2. Lay the cooked slices on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Place cookie sheet in freezer. By freezing them individually like this first, they won’t stick together in the bag and will be easy to remove one at a time.
  3. Once frozen, place slices in a large resealable freezer bag. Remove excess air, seal and freeze.

These make such an easy weekday breakfast. The french toast slices can be taken out one or two at a time and popped in the toaster or toaster oven. Top with syrup or fresh fruit.

When I make this, I use cinnamon bread from a local bakery and double or quadruple the recipe so that I can fill many bags with french toast in the freezer for busy morning. My kids love these and eat them almost as quickly as I can make them!
